I have a single mother of 3 who lives next door to my house in Indian Heights. We work hard to keep our yard looking nice and so do all of the others we live around. Here's the problem......this mother next door has mowed her yard 1 time all summer, her yard is full of trash, she has had roofing problems, had some one come out, they tore everything off including the decking. It was thrown in the yard between the houses and still lays there blowing into our yard. The outside of this house is trashed, if that's not bad enough so is the inside ( child protection bad ). I reported the outside to the trustee they came out her mom cleaned the front and mowed the front. When a check was made she passed and within a few days it was right back to the same mess with all this roofing added to it. Also she told me someone called child protection on her about 5 times. ( Wasn't me ) She laughed and said, What they don't realize is my mom is good friend with someone who works there she pulls my name comes out and lets it go. WTF... these kids are neglegted. This house has bags and more bags of trash every where. Garbage........ Any how does any one know what can be done.. Help....

I would find out the mom's name, call CPS and ask for someone besides her and report what the daughter told you. It might not accomplish anything but at least they would know that someone is aware of the corruption in their offices.

Maybe it should be reported to a CPS supervisor, along with the information that the mom has a friend within the system who is supposedly helping out?

In most areas of the US, if the police show up, they have to write a report. If they write a report and it involves child abuse, no one is going to stop an investigation.

Moral of story: Police trumps protective mom

Give the Board of Health a call. Garbage will attract rats, mice and other rodents. Very unsanitary. The droppings could make her kids sick, not to mention the risk of being bitten.

Ditto...the bad thing about the calling the Board of Health, if you are trying to stay anonymous is their records are public record in 72 hrs. That is why most people do not complete their complaints with them.

If the complaint involves the health and welfare of the kids, why would you care who knew who called?

the board of health will not take *anonymous* complaints...
there are too many domestic disputes for them to get involved in every he said/she said case.

also, i would not deal with the local social service people, if you believe there are office rats. maybe the supervisor is the one who knows the lady's mother?... better to call the state office in indianapolis and file from there. also a call to the state police instead of the local *good ol boys* law enforcement agents (the supervisor may be involved with a cop?) might yield better results

good luck

hope this helps

you could pay for the repairs and mow the grass. Pay her tuition so that she can find job that pays living wages. Or, you could beat the hell out of her. Which is more Christian?

I know of a situatation with a child that has been taken out of their home by CPS not once, not twice but numerous times because of an unclean/unhealthy home.CPS was called by neighbors and family members. They take them out and bring them back and it happens all over again in a month or two. Frustrated, we talked to CPS and were told that unless it reaches a criminal level, drugs, alcohol, abuse ect....CPS hands are tied. I know its not right but that is how it works. Most parents seem to know the system and fly just under the radar. Sad!

Sorry wanted to add one more suggestion. We were told that at anytime we could call police and have them do a welfare check on the child/children.If at anytime the police see something that is not right they will call CPS. If by chance the police see something illegal with children in the home, that changes everything. Guess even the people on the right side of the law has to learn to "work" the system to get some of these kids taken care of. You do not have to give name to request welfare check.

I use to work with parents who had CPS called on them for "unsafe living conditions". Typically the parent had 72hrs to get the place cleaned up and the children were returned. The problem with that is no lesson is/was learned. It is a quick fix. Unfortunately there is no monies avalible to teach parents how to maintain a home. Many of us think it is a "no-brainer" but for some it is a struggle. I truly wish I had the resources to do Dr. Jon's suggestion (minus the beating)...I would love to spend my time teaching people to better themselves.

Thanks to all. I don't know where I am going to go with this but I am not done. I know a county and city police personally I will probably talk to them as well and see what they suggest. Again thanks..

Years ago, one of my neighbors asked me to turn her son and daughter inlaw in to the welfare...Because she didn't want to be the one that did it...I of course told her to do it herself...Because I had never seen the abuse, other than the way she treated these children herself...I felt that I really had no reason to call. This Grandma was down right cruel to these kids...They were dropped of at her house and I don't think she ever let them inside her house...They would be outside from sun up to sun down and she never hardly fed or watered them...Even when the parents visited, these kids were not allowed inside. The kids were so called homeschooled, but I knew that wasn't true. Well a few years later, when I was living in CT...I read in the tribune online edition...That the parents had been arrested...I believe it is still considered Kokomos worst case of child abuse ever...If only the grandmother had told me more, then I wouldn't have hesitated to get involved...I still to this day can only hope that this grandma didn't know everything...Because this went on for a few years after she asked me to turn them in and it was real ugly stuff that was happening to these poor children. The saddest part though is that grandma just couldn't seem to love these kids enough or at all, because of what she knew her own son was doing to them...So they were neglected and rejected by everyone who should have been the very ones who loved them the most.

This thing about remaining anonomys (sp) hit home. We had an incident across the street where a young (3) child got hold of his fathers gun. I didn't hear the shot because I was running the sweeper. They came to my door in histerics and told me that the little one had fired that gun. Fortunatly he was not badly injured. He had GSR on his hands and powder burns on his face that the parents were not aware of. I didn't call CFS because these kids were friends of ours. In retrospect I should have called immediately. No one even called the police. I am ashamed of what I did or didn't do. I tried to rectify this when they left this baby alone in their apartment because they were fighting and she left and he followed. He wound up in jail for PI and she was allowed to go home. She told the cops that her sister-in-law was with the baby. NOT. I did finally call cps and they were out there immediatly but it was too late for them to do anything. That baby could have been hurt or dead to say nothing of the family downstairs. I am sure that those people who are aware of this will know who called the CPS. I just wish I had done it that day. So I learned a lesson and I hope some of you have learned by my mistake, if there is a situation that you think should be reported, don't hesitate. I would rather lose a friend than see a baby hurt. Being sorry isn't enough. The lady downstairs heard the shot. I am sure she regrets not calling the police. So sad. Oh, his mother wasn't late for her tanning bed appointment.
